Renowned concert pianist Awadagin Pratt makes his-ever first appearance with the Omaha Symphony to present a brand-new work: Jessie Montgomery’s Rounds for Piano Concerto. Pratt, who presented Montgomery’s new concerto in its world premiere earlier this year, is known for his intensity in performance and his particular musical insight. Bookending the Omaha premiere of Montgomery’s concerto is the world premiere of Chicago-based composer Stacy Garrop’s Berko’s Journey, a work commissioned by our partners at 90.7 KVNO, Omaha’s Classical Radio, in celebration of the station’s 50th anniversary. Finally, the evening culminates in a majestic ending with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3, Eroica—originally dedicated to Napoleon, his third Symphony marks the composer’s middle period, which was defined by new heights of innovation.
